In our last piece of One Minute Wisdom, we explored the power of deep work. Well, as it turns out, going deep is equally important in your relationships.
If you want to create meaningful connections with your fellow humans, you need to be fully present with them. And for that to happen, guess what can’t be present?
Your phone.
Research shows that the mere presence of a smartphone diminish the quality of the interaction between people. Of course, it gets even worse if you constantly pick it up and check the latest push notification.
If you do that, you demonstrate to the person you’re with that they’re not worthy of your full attention. And that’s a surefire way to kill your connection and damage your relationship.
Just like distractions ruin your focus at work, they ruin your presence in your relationships.
So, just like you need deep work time blocks at the office, you need deep love time blocks when you get home.
Pick a specific time when you shut off all distractions each day and focus fully on your family and friends.
Give your loved ones your full attention, and your relationships will thrive.
